CDPH Makes Changes to VOC Emissions Standard Method

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has indicated its intention to make several changes to the CDPH Standard Method V1.2 addressing VOC emissions testing from building products and furniture. Last revised in 2017, the Standard Method (sometimes referred to as California Method 01350) sets forth sample collection, testing and analytical methods, and VOC emission concentration limits for products such as adhesives, paints, flooring materials, and wall coverings. Effective July 1, 2026 CDPH will reduce the compliance threshold for 1,4-dichlorobenzene (CAS# 106-46-7) emissions from 400 µg/m 3 to 2.5 µg/m 3 . Additionally, effective January 1, 2027 compliance values will be added for 1- bromopropane, CAS# 106-94-5 (0.9 µg/m 3 ), ethylene glycol monobutyl ether CAS# 111-76-2 (41 µg/m 3 ) and trimethylbenzenes (2 µg/m 3 ) (CAS #s 25551-13-7, 108-67-8, 95-63-6, 526-73-8). CDPH is currently reviewing public comments regarding these changes.
